This won’t take very long, and if you’re planning on raising the volume, it’s semi-necessary, anyway.

This is how to convert an AC3 to WAV, but it’s the same for any format as long as the proper input and output boxes are selected.

To convert AC3 to WAV:

  • Fire up BeSweet.  Make sure every box is unchecked except the box to the right of ‘VOB Input’, the ‘Use (xxx) Decoder’ box.  It changes depending upon what file is loaded.  It will probably say ‘Azid’ or ‘Hip’ above it.

  • Set the drop-down menu of the ‘Output’ area to ‘Wave-Stereo’.  (The word ‘Output’ also changes depending upon format.  It’s the drop-down menu to the right of ‘Boost’.)

  • In the upper-left part of the program, click on the small folder icon to the right of ‘Input’.  Set the drop-down menu to the far right to ‘.ac3′, navigate to the AC3 file, double-click on it, ‘OK’.

  • Just below that, click on the ‘Output’ icon and navigate to where the file will be saved.  Put in a new file name over to the right.  (Note: you actually do have to put in a new file name or it may not save it in the proper folder.)

  • Click ‘AC3 to WAV’

A black box will pop open as it transcodes (cool audiophile lingo) the file to WAV.

Now it’s time to assemble the two tracks in VirtualDub.
