The Best Water Dispenser
"CLANK! CLANK! CLANK! CLANK!"
"CLANK! CLANK! CLANK! CLANK!"
Ah, watering time at the ol' saloon.
How those noisy water dispensers with the little steel balls in them ever became popular is totally beyond me. Think of all the small animals who have been abandoned or taken back to the store over the years, simply because the owner "couldn't stand the noise anymore!" This would certainly be true with children who have pets in their bedrooms and are trying to sleep at night.
So here's the answer. It's called a "Soda Bottle Water Fount", made by a company called Lixit Animal Care Products. All it needs is any standard plastic bottle of drinking water. You fill up the bottle, tip it over backwards (and it won't spill a drop) then clip it to the cage with the supplied spring.

Part of the reason it's not more popular is that the metal dispenser part is about 3/4" wide, so it's too wide for many cages. The answer is to simply take a hacksaw blade or big wire cutters and snip out a piece of the cage so it'll fit. That's what I did with Ratville West. I then took a small file and rounded off the ends of the sharp stubs that were left over.
If your local pet store doesn't carry the Water Fount, they should be able to order it for you. And they should certainly start carrying it. If they can't or won't order it for you, try the Lixit site or one of their distributors.
